Internship Reflection
End of Semester/Internship Reflection
Throughout my internship, I gained valuable first hand experience working alongside clinical research trial coordinators for cardiovascular studies. During my time at Krannert Cardiovascular Research Center, I had the opportunity to approach multiple patients for varying studies and witness how they responded to the proposed trials. This taught me how to properly manage patient interactions, prioritizing clear and effective communication throughout the process. I also had the opportunity to experience the navigation of complex EHR systems and research programs, which gave a background utilizing healthcare technology. For many of the hours I spent at my internship, I performed data entry for various studies. This experience improved my knowledge of medical terminology, as much of this data came directly from provider notes left in the EHR system. The weekly meetings I attended with the research team drastically improved how I present myself in professional settings, which I will utilize heavily in my future career. I was given independence and trusted to create an excel sheet that would be used for an upcoming study by the designated coordinator, which challenged me to use problem solving and analytical skills.
My experience was extremely beneficial for my professional future, as I formed and strengthened necessary skills for my desired career path. I was able to be a part of an organization that has a strong culture of dedication, hard working nature, and an incredible team of devoted researchers.
